About the Pass Sanitaire (France Travel) – October 2021
Wow it’s been a while. We’ve been pretty busy as the world is working hard to contain COVID19 globally. While its amazing that people are still getting vaccines around the world, travel has gotten a little more complicated.
David and I haven’t taken a proper vacation for more than a year. We decided to come to London during the month of October, but wanted to do a short getaway to Lyon, France. Although we are fully vaccinated (did this in the United States), we found the information online quite confusing with regards to whether or not the Pass Sanitaire (Health Pass) was required, and how to prove vaccination status from abroad.
Before you go:
*As early as possible, try to apply for the Pass Sanitaire (Health Pass) which converts the American CDC Vaccination card to a QR code that can be used in the TousCovid19 app: https://www.gouvernement.fr/en/coronavirus-covid-19
Unfortunately, we applied on 10/8/2021. We were set to go at 10/13/2021 but we did not get the pass before then. From reading a few websites, it seems like it varies greatly as to whether or not you receive it or not. Strangely enough, I received my QR Code on 10/14/2021 (I’m an American Citizen and was fully vaccinated in the US). Dave never got his by the time we completed our trip (British Citizen fully vaccinated in the US). No indication of why that is, although we submitted applications on the same day.
The reality was that we did not need the Pass Sanitaire at all during the time we were in Lyon. We showed our CDC cards (showing two shots) to all of the restaurants we wanted to go to and they were accepted with no trouble. No one needed additional ID either, although we carried our passports with us everywhere in case.
We spent a lot of time worried about whether we would be turned away without the QR code so hopefully this information is useful!
