New Restaurants – Winter 2019/2020

Here’s the scoop on some new restaurant openings that we’re excited about this winter in New York City. I’ve split these into sections by borough: Manhattan, Brooklyn, & Queens.
MANHATTAN
CHELSEA
Shukette
230 9th ave, New York, NY
Projected Grand Open Date: February 2020

Shukette is a new spinoff of the successful Shuka in Soho. Ayesha Nurdjaja, the chef-partner of Shuka will also focus on middle eastern food, where proteins will be cooked on a charcoal grill.
HELLS KITCHEN
Tavolino

Opened: December 31, 2019

Tavola restaurant has a history. It has been a staple in Hell’s Kitchen but they are now opening a sister restaurant Tavolino a few steps away.
FLATIRON
Jua

Chef Hoyoung Kim (former executive chef at Michelin starred Jungsik) is opening is first solo restaurant – he’ll be specializing in wood fired Korean dishes. There will be a 6 course menu for $95, and even a jjajangmyeon with truffle!
Sarashina Horii

Sarashina Horii is an old school Japanese soba shop from Tokyo that has been serving soba for 230 years. Anthony Bourdain described these famous noodles as “perfectly chewy”. Will ramen be taking a back seat?
LOWER EAST SIDE
Ernesto’s

Ryan Bartlow (former executive chef at Quality Eats) is the mastermind behind this new Basque inspired restaurant, his first solo project. This is exciting, considering the last tenant (a deli) occupied this space last in 2014.
Fat Choy

Occupying Kottu House’s old space in the LES is a new vegan friendly Chinese American spot.
Forsythia

This new Italian restaurant set to open up early 2020 was formerly known as Dinner Under the Stairs, a pop up concept that was anything but traditional – “no menu, no wine list, no distractions”.
MIDTOWN WEST
Kings of Kobe

Looks like this place originally opened in 2017 but closed sometime in February 2019. They’ll be reopening again and serving up their larger than life Wagyu burgers.
NOLITA
Kissaki

Mark Garcia and John Daley are co-executive chefs at this new Omakase joint in Nolita.
Thai Diner

Thai Diner is a new project from the owners of the popular Uncle Boon’s. According to instagram, this will draw on Chef Ann’s Thai American background.
Torien

An off shoot of the Michelin famed Torishiki from Tokyo (notoriously difficult to get a reservation) is opening up on Elizabeth Street. Hope you are looking forward to some good Yakitori! We know we are.
SOHO
Little Ways

A sister restaurant of The Flower Shop in the LES, this is a new local bistro coming to Soho. Stay tuned for natural wines and specialty cocktails!

Michelin starred chef Shaun Hergatt is opening a new restaurant in the Dominick Hotel. It looks like the menu will be American fare with Japanese accents.
TRIBECA
Farra

Farra is a sister wine bar to the Michelin starred Atera restaurant in Tribeca. They will be featuring contemporary American cuisine with Nordic influences, oh, and an extensive wine menu of course. We already booked a table on Resy for opening weekend…
UPPER EAST SIDE
Chez Nick

Three chefs with backgrounds in some of NYC’s fine dining restaurants are bringing Michelin starred techniques to a community centered, neighborhood friendly dining environment. The menu is expected to be seasonal New American cuisine.

Mojo Desserts

Chef Johan has been crafting small batch Belgian style mousse for retail but come February, he will open the first mousse bar in America.
Vicolina

Opened: February 7, 2020

Opened by the same person who owns Da Capo and the NYC espresso chain Zibetto, Vicolina will be serving up Northern Italian cuisine.
BROOKLYN
CROWN HEIGHTS
Rangoon

Looking forward to trying some homestyle Burmese cuisine. Chef Myo Moe had been running her pop up Rangoon NoodleLab for a while and is finally transitioning into a brick and mortar restaurant. They’re open for dinner from 5:30PM on weekdays and from 5pm on weekends (closed Tuesday).

The owners of Awash Brooklyn are going to open the first eco-friendly, organic plant-based Ethiopian restaurant in New York City. Their produce will be locally sourced from farm to table, as much as possible.
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN
Gage & Tollner

Originally opened in 1879 by Charles Gage and Eugene Tollner, this oyster and chophouse is being revived in the spirit of its original restaurant by St. John Frizell, Sohui Kim, and Ben Schneider.

Rule of Thirds

Rule of Thirds is going to be a bento spot during the day and an izakaya by night. This will be owned by the same team behind Sunday in Brooklyn, including chef JT Vuong.
WILLIAMSBURG
Bolero

Bolero is a new Vietnamese restaurant that will have an outdoor tea garden. They will be introducing underrepresented Vietnamese dishes using local ingredients.
QUEENS

FOREST HILLS
La Rotisserie du Coin

LONG ISLAND CITY
American Brass
Corner of 49th ave and Center Blvd, Long Island City, NY

American Brass is going to be a waterfront restaurant, opened by the same owners behind Maiella, another successful waterfront restaurant in LIC. This looks like it’ll be a chic space with a view of Gantry State Park and Manhattan.
