Burmese in a Bowl – Asian Bowl

Burmese in a Bowl – Asian Bowl

Have you sampled Burmese cuisine before? Chances are that it won’t be as foreign as one may think. The food of Burma is heavily influenced by its neighboring countries. The acidity of Thailand, the complexity of China and spices of India.

Surprisingly, you can sample Burmese food in Forest Hills, Queens. Asian Bowl took over an old Chinese takeout joint on Queens boulevard but you would have never guessed it. They didn’t change the name nor the appearance and they even kept some of the dishes (Sushi anyone :S?). Anyway, we didn’t visit for sushi!

Same Shop, New Dishes

Asia bowl takes you on a journey.  The dishes are small and priced accordingly.  You can taste a variety of dishes and are totally encouraged to order many small plates.

Pa Zun Hin Thote – My favorite dish.  Pickled shrimp salad with a bright spicy taste.  The shrimp is in the form of a cubed cake with a firm texture.
Mohinga – A deeply flavored, thick fish based noodle soup with a consistency like split pea.  This is a must try!
Pork Curry
Pork Curry – Delicious, flavorful and fatty pork curry, served with white rice

Asian Bowl is a totally welcome and comforting addition to Forest Hills.
Its a real “hole in the wall” and yet another treasure in the Queens food scene!
