Llama San just opened yesterday – we felt that almost all their dishes were exceptional. This is a very well thought take on Peruvian-Japanese Nikkei cuisine. The only miss was the aged duck nigiri, which was over powered by the addition of unnecessary banana.
Japanese eggplant, pine nut, huacatay, fresh cheese, grape – tender with textures from smooth cheese, crisp sweet grapes and leafy micro greens
Cabbage, miso, nori, anchovy, quinoa furikake, mizuna – this was lovely- they cooked the cabbage to the point it was tender but still had a bite and then they charred it to add smoke and complexity. It was complemented by a smooth, rich miso cream based sauce that completed the dish.
The Lobster, beef heart, rice, aju panka dish featured perfectly cooked lobster and bold meaty heart. The beef heart was slightly over shadowed by the spicy dressing. It did take on some of the iron-y properties provided by the offal yet was not without its own charm.
Miso Banana, Oxapampa honey & white sesame desert was ok, it took too long to reach us but was akin to banana pudding and perfectly edible. Love the honeycomb.
The portions were decent sized, but I think we could have had one more dish between the two of us. We chose a Chilean red wine that was minerally, dry and medium bodied. It was presented chilled, which was refreshing.
The staff were very pleasant and service was good.
Solid restaurant, we were impressed. Given time I can only imagine it will get even better.
